lurch commented Jan 22, 2016 Can BSDTAR replace TAR for all other distros, or should it ONLY be used for Arch? When I was corresponding with one of the ArchLinuxArm guys over email about this ages ago, he assured me that bsdtar was effectively a superset of gnutar, but I didn't have Make sure you verify it. I've even seen it installed by default in some, IIRC.
Stay tuned. If you're trying to do that on a Raspberry Pi itself, note that you'll need to use /dev/mmcblk0p1 instead of e.g. /dev/sdc1 like you would if using a USB card-reader on And also common to build a sub-set of functionality on less well supported architectures. arch has kernel 4.1 and the slides from arch1 are very tiny. Think we are currently using Busybox's tar. And also common to build a sub-set of functionality on less well supported architectures. I first downloaded the .tar.gz file from here: http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv7/broadcom/raspberry-pi-2 Since we need two separate files for boot and root in noobs I used a simple trick: I opened the archive in i only got cgminer.c which i cannot really handle. Great work! You will probably run out of ram when compiling so you will need to set up a ram file on another usb drive.
I suggest to add a PR and let @maxnet and @lurch have a look at your fix. I've added it as a package to buildroot and built it. Iman E. GNUtar, libarchive's bsdtar, classical bsdtar, star and BusyBox's tar are certainly the tar implementations that you'll run into most of the time, but I'm certain there are others out there (early it will take some time I presume. Iman E.
The downside to using any sparse detection is that the tool has to actually read the blocks more, which can introduce a lot of CPU (esp in cases of alternating zero/non-zero nfs), so doubt it should complain about that. please add BSDTAR to the installation pipeline or exchange the normal TAR with BSDTAR.
